Clang … Clash … Clatter … The sound of pickaxes hitting the rocks echoed through the evening dark blue sky. Seagulls rested on the head of lighthouses near which a group of men worked. Clouds raced across the sky, ushered by the speeding wind which whistled through the men’s ears as they worked. The clouds crowded together over the bright blue sea, signaling that a storm might be brewing. The sky darkened to a deeper blue as the sun prepared to set over the horizon.
Clang … Clash … Clatter … Some of the men continued to work but others dropped their pickaxes, sitting down on the sandy beach where the salty waves crashed onto the shore. The men looked up to the darkening sky where the puffy grey clouds huddled together. Some of the seagulls started flying away, disappearing from the men’s view as they flew over the horizon towards the setting sun.
Tap … tap … tap … Raindrops started falling from the crowd of clouds covering most of the sky. The wind started howling, stinging the men’s faces like sharp knives. The rest of the seagulls flew away, squawking and flapping their feathery wings in fright.
Tap, tap, tap … Tap, tap, tap … The raindrops fell more rapidly, dampening the sandy beach. The grey clouds growled angrily, spitting out more and more raindrops and scattering them all over the men who were now preparing to row back to the mainland.
Bang! Clash … Boom … Thunder lit the coal black sky and vibrated through the men’s ears, filling their hearts with fear. Icy raindrops erupted from the monster clouds like molten lava erupting from a volcano.
The men scurried through the sand like mice. All thoughts of rowing back to the mainland were gone; all the men cared about now was getting safely into a shelter. Huge monstrous waves crashed excitedly on the shore, rushing the men forward towards the little hut near the group of lighthouses. Bang! Clash … Boom … Thunder lit the sky once more, lighting the whole sky with electric silver light.
Tap, tap, tap, tap … The raindrops crashed to the ground, one after another in an endless sequence. Tap, tap, tap, tap … Bang! Clash … Boom … They sky shook as the ruling thunder vibrated through, mighty and powerful. The wind pushed the workers on, howling as loudly as a pack of wolves. Whoosh … Bang! Tap … tap … The men scurries around desperately, squinting on the storm, gathering tools and finding their way to the hut. The wind laughed, the raindrops danced, the thunder sang and the men battled.
They scurried into the hut, sighing in relief at once, altogether like a well – trained orchestra. The sun finally sank over the horizon, its fiery orange rays melting into the salty seawater. Bang! Clash … Boom … The thunder vibrated through the men’s hearts, making them flinch. Whoosh … Bang! Clash … Boom … The men gasped altogether, their eyes widening in fear as they felt the ferocious wind pushing the weak wooden walls of the hut, trapping them inside …
