Ready

“Ladies and gentlemen, we will begin boarding shortly.”

Marking her place, Meera stowed her book away. Boarding pass? Ready. Passport? Ready. Neck pillow, sleeping mask, water bottle — ready. She stood up.

No one else even twitched, except a nervous-looking man nearby.

Deflated, Meera sat back down.

“Thank you for your patience. We will now board our platinum club members.”

Some people stirred. Meera sighed as an old lady struggled to find her ticket.

“Thank you for your patience. We will now board rows one through fourteen.”

Finally. Meera bounded to the counter and with a flourish, presented her bookmark.

This might have been the most difficult one for me yet! The character changed drastically as I forced myself to edit the initial two hundred and sixty-something words. It was challenging but it taught me a lot about the power of implication…
