World Book Day UK (My Life in Books Tag)

Happy World Book Day!

It’s the UK date to celebrate all things bookish! Whether you’re doing so by dressing up as your favourite literary character or by leafing through your favourite book, or whether you didn’t know what today was and are mildly surprised right now, I hope you had a wonderful day.

The most bookish thing I did today was go to my literature/creative writing classes. 😛

But I couldn’t let the whole day pass without doing nothing at all, so I thought I’d do a tag, as it’s been a while since I did the last one. I Googled ‘book tag’ (being the genius I am) and the My Life in Books Tag from Beatrice’s blog Dreamland Bookblog is one of the first things that popped up!

True, I wasn’t tagged. But this looks fun so I’m just going to pretend I was asked to do this – let’s go!

img_31641This is my home bookshelf. I’m using it for reference!

1. Find a book for each of your initials

S: Sense and Sensibility
K:
The Kite Runner

(Had to get some help from Goodreads… for shame…)

2. Count your age along your bookshelf: What book is it?

Switched by Amanda Hocking. This is the first book of the YA series called the Trylle trilogy. The series is well paced and simple to read, and the first book is especially gripping! Cliché alert: I really couldn’t put it down.

I recommend it if you’re looking for a YA series to get into. I didn’t quite like the following two books as much as the first, but that doesn’t mean you won’t!

3. Pick a book set in your city/country

Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo. I recently read this for a class and loved it. It’s about life in Mumbai slums – the story is just as desolate as you’d expect, yet comic in parts and uplifting as well.

(I would pick A Fine Balance but since I just wrote a rave review of it, I’ll give it a rest!)

4. Pick a book that represents a destination you’d love to travel to

Is there any other answer apart from Harry Potter?

Oh… you mean a book with a real, non-fictional destination?

Harry Potter.

5. Pick a book that’s your favorite colour

6. Which book do you have the fondest memories of?

Matilda. I remember laughing so hard whilst reading it, it was a wonderful feeling. (I’ve written a separate piece on Roald Dahl which is here, if you’re interested.)

7. Which book did you have the most difficulty reading?

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Spending so much time in Raskolnikov’s head was tiring…

8. Which book in your TBR pile will give you the biggest accomplishment when you finish it?

Anna Karenina. I’ll get there… One day…

And that marks the end of the tag! Let me know if you’ve read any of these books and what you thought of them. Go over to Beatrice’s tag answers here if you’d like to read them. And I’d love to hear your answers to these questions, so leave them in a comment or leave me a link if you do the whole tag!

Thanks for reading, and until next time!
