Isaac Newton said that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Which is probably why, after blogging (nearly) every day for one month, I took the subsequent months year off.
My blogging hiatus was mainly due to a lack of direction. In the past, I’ve let my ‘creative adventures’ guide my content. But over time, I became unsure about the direction this blog was taking.
After taking some time to think, I found a common denominator in many of my interests: stories.
One thing literature students have the chance to do is turning a magnifying glass onto stories. Digging into each line, overturning words to explore the hidden depths beneath.
Analysing stories like this — thinking about what makes them so great — is something I miss, as I don’t really get to do it in day-to-day life. That’s where this blog comes in.
Looking at my older posts, all I’ve ever done is write about stories. So this year, starting afresh won’t mean shifting focus, but just re-adjusting it to be sharper.
I hope to keep posting some of my own writing while also exploring stories in all their glory.
Here’s to 2020: the year of stories.
