The Joys of Writer’s Block

If you’ve read my earlier post, you will know that I’ve started a new project recently (Project X, or Project Fairytale, because I can’t come up with a more creative name). When the idea came to me, I was so excited about posting the results! By the time I wrote about it here, I already knew which character I wanted to write about first, what her background story might be, how I was going to structure it all…

Project X

Project X: sounds so serious! But in reality, it’s a project I’m considering, and I can’t come up with a good name for it. Anyhow, the point of this project is to allow me to write more, as I’m still not writing as much as I would like to (a word a week wasn’t as effective as I thought it would be…).

This project draws inspiration from an English class assignment I got a long time ago: to write a fairytale from the antagonist’s point of view. I was recently thinking about the story I wrote, from the wolf’s perspective in Little Red Riding Hood. This got me thinking: what if antagonists in other fairy tales aren’t as bad as they seem? What if they were good to begin with? What caused them to act as they did? Why did they become the way they were?

This is where my imagination comes in! I want to look at other fairytales and their antagonists, and maybe write a prequel of sorts, or rewrite the story from the antagonist’s point of view. Of course, whatever I come up with will be the product of my imagination, and not something I think the original authors were trying to show in their stories.

This project is just a way to get me to write more, whilst looking deeper into pre-existing characters and imagining their life before their story was told. Hopefully I will be able to post some of the results of this project soon!

A Word A Week

Recently, I haven’t been writing as much as I would like to, and neither have I been updating my website as much as I wanted to. However, a word a day will help me to do both more often! Since I don’t usually have the time to sit about and think of something to write about, I have decided to… *drumroll*… have a list of words at the ready, one of which I will choose at random every week. After having chosen a word, that word will be inspiration for me to write a short piece.

In preparation, I have collected different words, which are either a noun, verb or adjective. Each week, I will pick a word and write something based on that word, and if it seems good enough, I’ll post it here! I’m hoping I’ll get the chance to do this every week, but if not, I may change it to a-word-every-two-weeks, or a-word-a-month. I guess we’ll see!
