A Year in Books: August (‘Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian’)

Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian is the final book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. For those of you who have not read the first four books of the series, the plot summary may contain spoilers (depends on what you consider a spoiler), so I would head straight down to the review. You have been warned!

Plot summary: Percy Jackson faces off against his biggest enemy, the Titan lord Kronos, in the fifth and final book of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.

Kronos drags up old enemies to distract the already divided and disputing Olympians, so it is up to Percy and a dangerously outnumbered army to defend Olympus. Although Percy finally learns the infamous Great Prophecy, he can only watch as it gets played out in unpredictable ways, knowing all the time that Olympus’s fall means the rise and domination of Titans once more.

The Ultimate Book Tag

I serendipitously stumbled onto this tag here, at xingsings. It looked really fun and I love reading, so I decided to answer the questions for myself. So, I present to you: The *Ultimate* Book Tag

1. Do you get sick while reading in the car?
Fortunately, no! Unfortunately, I do get sleepy… :/

2. Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?
Tahereh Mafi. Her writing, although a bit heavy at times, is very lyrical.

The Harry Potter series or the Twilight Saga? Give 3 points to defend your answer.
Harry Potter, because:

  1. The characters are more diverse, developed and well-rounded
  2. There are layers of meaning and little details that can be discovered with each read, all bound together in a a story that readers of all ages can enjoy
  3. MAGIC. Accio Hogwarts acceptance letter. And a box of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans.
Just look at all that magic.

Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is in it?
A bag specifically for books? No. A bag with a book in it? Usually.

I usually carry a backpack (I’ve sworn off shoulder bags if I have to carry anything heavier than a pear) which has, apart from a book, a notebook and pen, school stuff, and boring things like my wallet, water bottle, keys to my time machine…

Do you smell your books?
Yeah… Not all the time, though (because then how would I read?)

The Book Blogger Confessions Tag

I saw the Book Blogger Confessions Tag on Emma’s blog BluChickenNinja and immediately knew that, as a certified bookworm, it was my duty to do this tag. I know that my blog isn’t totally about books. But it is partially about books. So I present to you: The (Partial) Book Blogger Confessions Tag.
